It’s been a long winter, but it’s finally nice out and I have been trying to do as much outside as possible! I’ve been trying to go on walks, runs, and sipping on some delicious beverages (alcoholic and non alcoholic).
I’ve been running a lot. I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again, I wouldn’t classify myself as an avid runner, but I like the 2-3 miles 3-4 times a week. Recently I’ve been trying to get a little faster and am trying to get down to a 9 minute mile (currently running at about a 10-11 min mile). Lucky for me I have beautiful sights to see while I huff and puff my way home.
I’ve also been trying to go on more walks. Now I’m not inherently a walker, so I convince myself to go on longer walks than I normally would by only letting myself listen to the podcasts I like while on these walks. I’ve been loving the follow-up to Serial called Undisclosed. If you loved Serial and haven’t been listening to Undisclosed, I suggest you stop reading this right now and subscribe!
I’ve also been loving this podcast called Stuff You Missed In History Class. I love love loved history class in high school, but I promise even if you weren’t a history lover like I was this podcast will have something for you. They go over tons of historical events and fill you in on details that you probably didn’t know.
For instance, they have an entire podcast on the Titanic, and in it they talk about how the crew members showed up about an hour before the ship departed and had no idea what their job would be until they arrived. A common misconception is that had Titanic had more life boats more people would have been saved. This, however, might not be true because again, crew members only had 1 hour of training and because of this didn’t fully know how to get the life boats off the ship. There were many boats left on board Titanic when it sank. What this means is that more life boats probably wouldn’t have saved more people! Crazy, right? I could keep going, but I suggest you start with that episode and go from there!
When I’m all done with my run or walk I have been loving on this alcoholic drink called Twisted Tea. I’m not one for sweet drinks, but this is the perfect sitting on the beach (or on your deck) drink! They even have a raspberry flavored one that will blow your mind! [I swear I am not being paid to say this]
And during the day I’ve been loving infused water. I got this pitcher at Target for $5 and I just fill it with a ton of different kinds of fruit concoctions. Below is blueberry and orange, but I’ve done strawberry and lemon, blackberry and lemon, just strawberry or raspberry and currently soaking in there is blueberry and lime! I usually put it together at night and it’s ready for a full day of drinking by morning. It’s a super easy way to drink tons of water, plus it has some great detox benefits depending on what you put in there. I’ve seen people do strawberry and mint, cucumber, and even mango!
What about you lovely readers? How do you motivate yourself to go for long walks? And do you have any suggestions of items I can put in my infused water pitcher?
